UMS-Wright spring sports are hitting full gear this week as all of our teams are starting their game schedules. On campus this week, Softball and Soccer have home games on Thursday. Track and Field opens their outdoor season this weekend at Saraland, while the Boys Golf Team has their first match beginning on Monday. Here is an update on the first week of games for all of our spring sports teams.
TENNIS (Boys 1-0 / Girls 0-0)
After a rainout on Tuesday, the Varsity Boys opened their season on Thursday with an 8-1 win over Satsuma.
This week: Tuesday vs St. Paul's (MTC) / Thursday vs Saraland (MTC) / Friday vs Montgomery Academy (Cottage Hill Park)
The Varsity Girls were also rained out on Tuesday, and they will open their season this week with 2 matches.

SOCCER (Boys 4-0-2 / Girls 1-4-1)
The Varsity Boys are undefeated through 6 games with a record of 4-0-2. The team won the Port City Classic in their opening weekend with strong performances in all three matches.
The Bulldogs tied MGM 0-0, then defeated Satsuma 3-0 with goals from Joseph Price (2) and Alex Barrera (1). William Fillers and Wes Cooper provided assists. They closed out the tournament with a 1-0 win over Saraland, with Wes Cooper scoring off an assist from Alex Barrera.
Christian Holloway was solid in goal, recording three shutouts to help secure the championship.
Last week, the Bulldogs played St. Paul's to a scoreless draw before defeating Cottage Hill and Bayshore Christian. In the 2-0 win over Cottage Hill, Bud Urquhart and Kingston Phan scored a goal apiece. Alex Barrera and Matthew Monson each added an assist.
In a 5-0 win over Bayshore, Alex Barrera and Bud Urquhart scored 2 goals each and Andy McNair added another. Matthew Monson had 2 assists and Malone Ngando contributed with another assist. Christian Holloway recorded the shoutout.

The Varsity Girls got their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Bayshore Christian on Friday. Hayden Collins scored the only goal and Marley Santana recorded the shutout.

SOFTBALL (0-1)
Varsity Softball dropped their season opener to Cottage Hill, with 3 games scheduled for the upcoming week.
This week: Monday at Davidson / Thursday vs Murphy (Maitre Field) / Friday vs Davidson (Loxley)
BASEBALL (1-2)
The Varsity Baseball team beat Murphy to open the season before dropping their next two games to Shelby County and Faith Academy. They will be playing 3 teams from the Birmingham area this weekend in Baldwin County.

GOLF
The Varsity Boys Golf team opens up their season on Monday and Tuesday of this week with the David Miller Memorial at Magnolia Grove.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Boys and Girls track and field teams start their season on Saturday with a meet at Saraland
LACROSSE (0-1)
The Club Lacrosse team dropped their season opener to Catholic High in Baton Rouge, LA.
