MEET THE SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF
Dr. Clint Howard graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of South Alabama, and then completed fellowship training in spine surgery at the Foundation for Orthopaedic and Athletic-Related Research at Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Howard specializes in spinal deformity with interests in oncology and reconstruction of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Howard and his wife, Dr. Donnelly Howard, have four children at UMS-Wright: Will, Frances, Hayes, and Audrey.
Dr. Matt Busbee is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine under the direction of Dr. James Andrews at ASMI. He completed his residency at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN and Medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
A former All-American swimmer at Auburn University, Dr. Busbee earned a B.S. in Biomedical Science. In addition to UMS-Wright athletics, Dr. Busbee serves as a team physician for the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Lending Tree Bowl and the University of Mobile.
Dr. Busbee and his wife Lauren (UMS-W ’95) have three children attending UMS-Wright: Lauren (9th Grade), Walker (9th Grade) and Frances (5th Grade).

Dr. Rod Rocconi returns for his 7th year as a team doctor for the Bulldogs. Dr. Rocconi is a Board Certified Gynecologic Oncologist at the University of South Alabama's Mitchell Cancer Institute. A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Dr. Rocconi completed medical school, residency, and fellowship and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
A native to the New Orleans area, Dr. Rocconi and his family relocated to Mobile in 2017 after his medical training. His wife, Courtenay, is a graduate of UMS-Wright, Class of 1989. They have two daughters Isabelle and Olivia, who both attend UMS-Wright. Their son Ty graduated from UMS-Wright in 2017 and is now a student at the University of Mississippi.
Dr. Mike Maitre, Jr., a 1984 graduate of UMS-Wright, enters his 5th year as a team doctor for the Bulldogs. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in 1988 and a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1992. Dr. Maitre is on the President's Cabinet of the University of Alabama and the Leadership Council at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry.
Dr. Maitre and his wife Shannon have three children. Their daughter Caroline is a junior at UMS-Wright, and their two sons are both graduates of UMS-Wright. Michael is a member of the Class of 2015, and Will is a member of the Class of 2017.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, Dr. Phillips has been practicing cardiology in Mobile for over 30 years and has built one of the top cardiology practices in the nation. Dr. Phillips graduated from Spring Hill College and the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed is his internship, residency, and cardiology fellowships at the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
His medical practice, Cardiology Associates, employs 30 cardiologists and offers the latest in cardiovascular care to Mobile, Baldwin County and surrounding areas. The practice offers numerous cardiac subspecialties – including electrophysiology, congestive heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, pediatric cardiology, and the treatment of adult structural heart disease.
Dr. Phillips is a published author in the Journal of American College of Cardiology, New England Journal of Medicine, and the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. In 2008, he was chosen as the American Heart Association’s Mobile Heart Hall of Fame honoree.
Dr. Scott Hollensworth has been contributing to the UMS-Wright Medical Staff by managing concussions for injured student athletes. He attended UMS-Wright from K-12th grade and graduated in the Class of 1990. He went on to attend Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and then obtained his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from University of South Alabama in 1999. Afterwards, he completed medical school, internship, and residency in Neurology all at the University of South Alabama. He has been in private practice at Diagnostic Medical Clinic and Mobile Infirmary since 2008.
He is married to Dr. Laura Hollensworth, a primary care physician on the Eastern shore. He has 5 children who all attend UMS-Wright: Ben, Trent, Murphy, Emma, and Brooke.
DR. STEPHEN R. SNYPES, MD
Dr. Stephen R. Snypes is an anesthesiologist at The University of South Alabama Hospitals and Clinics. He earned his bachelor degree in science, majoring in chemistry, from Birmingham Southern College and received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his residency in anesthesia at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Snypes is board certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.
After 20 years of private practice in Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Snypes and his wife Vickie returned home to Mobile. They have three sons - Skipper, UMS-Wright Class of 2019; Cameron, UMS-Wright Class of 2021; and Sutton UMS-Wright Class of 2023.
DR. ALFRED M. NEUMANN, Jr., MD
Dr. Alfred M. Neumann, Jr., Premier Medical Group, provides care for all aspects of adult and pediatric ear nose and throat (ENT) disorders. He specializes in adult and pediatric ENT surgery, as well as allergy. With a medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Neumann is Board Certified by the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, and Fellowship trained in Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology. He practices at both Premier Medical – West in Mobile and Premier Medical in Daphne.

DR. ROBERT C. BAIRD III, M.D.
Born and raised in Alabama, Dr. Baird completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he gained valuable experience in diagnosing and treating injuries and disorders. He subsequently completed his fellowship in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has a special interest in joint replacement surgery when nonsurgical treatment is ineffective and specializes in partial knee replacement, total knee and hip replacement, and revision surgery.
Trey and his wife Taylor along with their two kids, Evelyn and Robert, are proud to be a part of the Bulldog Family.
Molly Anna Nelson is employed at Encore Rehabilitation and has been with UMS-Wright since 2008. She currently holds the position of Clinical Director at Midtown Mobile Encore and serves part-time with the Sports Medicine Team at UMS-Wright.
Molly graduated from University of South Alabama in 2004 with a master's degree in Physical Therapy. She accepted her first position in Fort Collins, Colorado where she worked for 3 years in orthopedic rehabilitation for a US News 50 Best Hospitals in Orthopedics. She returned to her hometown of Mobile, taking a sports medicine position with Encore Rehabilitation in 2007. This allowed her to work in a variety of settings around the city including collegiate and high school athletic facilities. She believes patient care and respect should be held at highest degree while searching for root cause of orthopedic problems to allow people to move better and meet individual goals.
Molly and her husband Jeff Nelson have two beautiful daughters and reside in Spanish Fort, Alabama. They love to spend time playing golf, watching sports, and going to the beach together.
Kellie Glover Miller is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with an Associate Degree from Bishop State Community College. She has been employed by Encore Rehabilitation since 2019 and is currently treating patients at the Encore Midtown location alongside Physical Therapist Molly Anna Nelson.
Kellie is excited to now be part of the sports medicine team at UMS - Wright. Her passion for sports medicine stems from years of dance and cheerleading where she recognized the importance of returning to a sport quickly and safely. Kellie is a 2015 graduate from Mary G Montgomery High School where she met her husband David. They currently live in Semmes, Alabama, with their fur baby Drako.
