The defending 5A State Champion UMS-Wright Volleyball team started their season with back-to-back home wins over Mary G Montgomery and Alma Bryant this week.
In the season opener against the Vikings, UMS-Wright won in straight sets 25-10 / 25-7 / 25-10.
Chandler Thomas had 7 kills to lead the team, with
Aiden Hope and
Skylar Courtney right behind at 6 kills each.
Madison Lathan set up most of those kills, finishing the game with a team high 19 assists. Lathan was also dominant from the serve line with 7 aces.
Madeline Prine had 4 aces in the match. Defensively,
Ella Claire Sullivan was the top dog with 11 digs.
MARY G MONTGOMERY HIGHLIGHTS
In Thursday's match against the Hurricanes, UMS-Wright won 3-1.
Chandler Thomas and
Skylar Courtney each finished with 14 kills and 4 aces.
Madison Lathan set them up all night and racked up an incredible 36 assists. She also had 7 digs and 3 aces.
Ella Claire Sullivan had a great defensive game, leading the team with 20 digs. Thomas was right behind with 19 digs.
Bentley Doyle had a team high 2 blocks, along with 4 digs and 9 kills.
ALMA BRYANT HIGHLIGHTS
Next Up: The Lady Bulldogs travel to Foley this weekend to compete in a tournament at OWA. Their first game is Friday at 3:30 vs West Florida Tech. They will play other pool games Friday and Saturday against Elkmont and Grace Christian Academy before bracket play begins. Next week they will travel to Orange Beach on Thursday for a tri-match with the Makos and Gulf Shores.
