Vigor Game Recap
UMS-Wright fell behind 23-0 in the first half, but played their way back into a two score game in the second half before losing 30-14. The offense showed some fight in the second half as Max Fowler connected with Camden Taylor for two touchdowns, but it was not enough to overcome 3 first half turnovers. The defense gave up three long third down conversions in the first half that led to scores, but held Vigor to just 7 points in the 2nd half.
Â
1st Quarter
The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and picked up a first down to cross into Vigor territory on a 6 yard run from Bo Wills. Max Fowler's 3rd & 5 pass intended for Thomas Portacci was broken up, and UMS-Wright punted.
Mac McGinley sacked the Vigor QB on their first play from scrimmage for a 6 yard loss, but the Wolves converted a 3rd & 12 two plays later. A 73 yard touchdown pass on the next play from scrimmage gave Vigor a 6-0 lead (PAT no good).
The UMS-W offense picked up a 1st down on back to back completions from Fowler before his 1st & 10 pass was picked off by a Vigor linebacker. The defense held for two downs, but Vigor converted a 3rd & 7 with a 17 yard run on a draw play. The drive ended with another Vigor touchdown pass, this time for 18 yards.
UMS-W gained 7 yards on a Fowler screen pass to Perry Hand as the 1st quarter ended.Â

2nd Quarter
Facing a 4th and 4 near midfield and trailing 13-0, the UMS-W offense converted a clutch 4th & 4 pass to Hand that picked up 30 yards to the Wolves 5 yard line. The Vigor defense stuffed a 3rd & Goal run from the one, and the Bulldogs fumbled on 4th & Goal to come away empty.Â
The Wolves were quickly 3 and out, but the Bulldogs fumbled the punt return to give the ball right back to Vigor. After converting a 4th & 3 from the Bulldog 38 yard line, Vigor picked up 19 yards on the ground to move the ball to the 14 yard line. A 14 yard pass for their 3rd touchdown of the half put Vigor up 20-0.
Hand gained 10 yards on a 1st down run, but the Bulldog offense stalled and they punted it back to Vigor late in the quarter. A Bulldog penalty after the punt gave Vigor the ball at the 44 yard line. A 28-yard completion moved the ball inside the 25 yard line, and a 27 yard field goal gave the Wolves a 23-0 halftime lead.

3rd Quarter
Vigor started with a quick 3 & Out to open the 3rd quarter. The Bulldogs started at their own 31 and picked up a 1st down on a Vigor pass interference call. Bo Wills ripped off an 11 yard run for another 1st down, but the drive stalled at the Vigor 41 yard line. Offensive penalties put Vigor behind the chains, and couldn't convert a 3rd & 18. Â
After picking up 5 yards on a 1st down scramble, Max Fowler found Camden Taylor in the end zone for a 14 yard Touchdown pass on 4th and 6. Phan's PAT was good and the Bulldogs were on the board, trailing 23-7. Â
Caplyn Reed's TFL on a 3rd down screen play created a 4th & 9, and Charlie Jeffery defended the pass well to force a turnover on downs. On the ensuing possession, Bo Wills rushed for 13 yards on 1st down. Vigor stuffed the next 2 rushing attempts, and Fowler's 4th down pass down the middle was incomplete.Â
Vigor would score 2 plays later on a 43 yard run up the middle to extend the lead back to 30-7. Â

4th Quarter
The Bulldog offense opened the 4th quarter with their best drive of the night, scoring a touchdown on a 17 play - 64 yard drive. Fowler hit Wills on a 4th & 12 play action pass out of the backfield to keep the drive alive, then found Taylor for another touchdown just inside the pylon.Â
Vigor answered with a clock draining drive of their own, converting three 3rd downs to run out the clock and end the game.

Plays of the Game
Offense: Max Fowler's 14 yard touchdown pass to Camden Taylor on a 4th and 6 play in the 3rd quarter gave the Bulldogs their first touchdown of the night. Taylor ran a good comeback route just beyond the goalline, then held the defender off to catch the on time pass from Fowler
Defense: Mac McGinley's sack on the first play of the game put the Wolves behind the chains early and gave great energy to the Bulldog defense and sidelines. His stutter step and inside move against the Wolves right tackle gave him a clear shot at the QB.
