Williamson Preview

For the Bulldogs, tonight is a "must-win" to stay in the mix for a top-2 Region 1 finish.  While UMS-Wright is a lock for the playoffs, a win over Williamson is likely the only path to hosting an opening round game.  Riding their second 2-game win streak of the season, confidence is high and the Bulldogs are prepared for a special night on the road.

Williamson is undefeated in Region play, and in their overall record.  However, it is worth noting that 3 of their wins have come against winless teams: Wayne County (0-5), Elberta (0-7), and Murphy (0-8). Their other 3 opponents have a combined 6 wins.  The Lions have certainly put up some impressive scores this season, but the state will find out if they are a legitimate 5A contender over these next two weeks as they host UMS-Wright and then Vigor.

According to MaxPreps, Williamson has thrown for over 2000 yards and 24 touchdowns this season.  Senior QB Alvin Dinkins averages over 300 passing yards per game, and has completed 91 of 120 passes.  His top target at wide receiver is #15 John Austin with 26 catches for 546 yards and 10 TDs. #12 Keith Donald and #20 Jacob Massey each have over 20 catches and have combined for another 10 receiving TD's.  On the ground, the Lions average 190 yards a game and have scored 20 rushing touchdowns.  #1 Todrick Withers is the leading rusher for Williamson with 65 carries for 739 yards and 11 TD's.

The Williamson defense has 4 shutouts on the season and has only allowed 14 total points through 6 games. Safety #5 Ellis McGaskin leads the Lions with 82 tackles and 17 TFLs.  The Lions have forced 21 turnovers in their 6 wins while blocking 8 punts.

Williamson's top players:

#4 - JR - Jaylen Scott - committed to Auburn

#5 - JR - Ellis McGaskin - committed to Notre Dame

#33 - SR - Dontaye Bush - committed to Troy

#0 - SR - Jermaine McCree - committed to Appalachian State

#9 - SO - Demarcus Dale-Brown - uncommitted 3-star prospect

We need a lot of fan support on the road tonight, and parking is limited so get there early!
