Preview
Region 1 matches up with Region 3 in the opening round of the playoffs in 2024. Demopolis is the defending Region 3 champion, and rode the 1 seed to the 3rd Round of the playoffs in 2023 before falling to Eufaula. As a 4 seed in last year's playoffs, the Bulldogs upset the 1 seed from Region 4, Central Clay County, in the opening round. The Bulldogs will be looking to repeat that feat tonight in Demopolis.
Â
Offense
The Bulldogs rushed for 208 yards in the loss to St. Michael; Perry Hand led the way with 67 yards and a touchdown. Including Hand, 5 Bulldogs rushed for 20+ yards last week. Max Fowler threw for 125 yards and a TD on 10/16 passing. The Demopolis defense is allowing 13 points per game this year in Region games, but that number spikes to 18 points per game in the full season.
Bo Wills leads the team in rushing with 699 yards and 6 TDs and also in receiving yards at 246. Max Fowler has passed for 816 yards with 5 TDs. Denton Elliott leads the team with 3 receiving TDs.
Â
Defense
Gunnar Rivers threw for 319 yards and 3 touchdowns last week to lead St. Michael to victory. The Demopolis offense has been strong all season, scoring 35 or more points in all six Region 3 games. However, in their 3 losses in out of Region games, they have only scored an average of 9 points.
Caplyn Reed (115) and Jeff Holston (105) lead the Bulldogs in tackles, while Charlie Jeffery's 4 interceptions leads the team in takeaways. Mac McGinley is the sack leader with 6 on the season, and Holston has the most tackles for loss at 10. Â
Â
Special Teams
Kingston Phan has connected on 4 of his 7 field goals this season, and has made 18 of 19 extra point attempts. Denton Elliott is averaging 36 yards per punt and has placed 5 punts inside the 20 yard line. Elliott also leads the Bulldogs in returning kickoffs, with 367 return yards on 13 returns, including a touchdown. Â
