The UMS-Wright Bulldogs boys golf team faced stiff competition and challenging conditions at the second annual Dumbwaiter Invitational, held at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Alabama. Despite cold and windy weather during Monday's opening round, the Bulldogs battled through the tough course setup and finished the first day in 8th place with a team score of 310.
Senior Thomas Crane and freshman Henry Brown led the way, each carding a solid round of 74. Junior teammates Parker Crabtree and Hunter Smallwood followed with scores of 81, while sophomore Witt Cayce rounded out the team's performance with an 85.
Day two brought improved weather after a rainy start, giving the Bulldogs an opportunity to climb the leaderboard. They delivered a stronger team performance, posting a 305 on Tuesday and finishing in 6th place overall with a total score of 615. Crane and Brown once again paced the team, shooting an even-par 72 and 73, respectively. Cayce rebounded well with a 76, while Smallwood and Crabtree finished with rounds of 84 and 85.
With valuable tournament experience under their belts, the Bulldogs now shift their focus to the upcoming Bradley Johnson Memorial in Birmingham, where they aim to establish a stronger start and contend for a top finish.
