Coach Garrett Schumacher takes over UMS-W Cross Country and Track Programs

After 52 years at UMS-Wright, Coach Pat Galle retired at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.  Coach Garrett Schumacher was named the Head Coach of the Bulldog Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams.  Coach Schumacher has been the assistant coach in all of these programs for many years, and UMS-Wright is excited for this new chapter in our storied programs.  Here is the press release from Coach Schumacher's hiring earlier this summer:

We are happy and proud to announce Garrett Schumacher as the new Head Track Coach at UMS-Wright.  Coach Schumacher brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as he will be over Cross-Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track and Field.
Coach Schumacher was a member of the South Alabama Track team where he was a 4-time Sunbelt All-Conference performer.  He held the South Alabama record in the Heptathlon until 2021 and was the record holder in the decathlon until 2023.  He is a graduate of Spanish Fort High School.

Coach Schumacher believes that working under long time Coach Pat Galle will bode him well as he now becomes the head coach. We are excited where we have been with Coach Galle for 52 years and now look to the future under Coach Schumacher's leadership.  He does a great job with event-specific techniques with an emphasis on a strong, positive, and motivating training environment.  Coach Schumacher has exceptional communication skills and a passion for helping athletes reach their full potential on and off of the track.

The Cross Country team opens up their season this Thursday at Bayside in the Admiral's Twilight meet.
