Mr. Stacy Harrelson is entering his 29th year as the Head Athletic Trainer at UMS-Wright. Athletic Training Services at UMS-Wright are provided by Encore Rehabilitation, and Mr. Harrelson currently is the Regional Director of Encore Sports Medicine. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the Alabama High School Athletic Association, District 1.
Mr. Harrelson was raised in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where he played football at Ocean Springs High School. He earned a football scholarship to Gulf Coast Junior College, then he transferred to Troy State University and earned a Bachelor of Science and Sports Medicine degree under the supervision of Dr. John "Doc" Anderson.
Mr. Harrelson worked in collegiate athletics at Troy State University. He also served as the Athletic Trainer in the NFL Europe professional football league for the Frankfurt Galaxy before joining the staff in the fall of 1998 at UMS-Wright.
Mr. Harrelson and his wife Angel live in Biloxi, Mississippi. Their daughter Colby is a member of the UMS-Wright Class of 2007. Colby is married to Cree Cantrell. In March of 2021, Stacy is the proud grandfather of 4- year old Junie Rose Cantrell.
HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER
Mr. Walt McKean begins his 5th year at UMS-Wright working the Sports Medicine Department. Mr. McKean comes to UMS-Wright from Oxford, Mississippi, where he worked with the Ole Miss Health and Sports Performance team. Mr. McKean was raised in Mobile, Alabama and attended UMS-Wright for fourteen years. As a student, Mr. McKean was a member of the Varsity Football, Basketball and Baseball teams and a member of the 2011 Baseball State Championship team.
Mr. McKean graduated from Troy University with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. He worked with many sports teams during his time at Troy before leaving in 2016 for Oxford, MS. During his time in Oxford, he worked out of the Manning Center Athletic Training room with both Football and Track and Field.

The athletic training room at UMS-Wright provides the highest quality in sports medicine care to students, athletes and staff. Under the direction of Stacy Harrelson, his full-time assistant athletic trainer, Walt McKean, assisted by two physical therapists with
Encore Rehabilitation, work in conjunction with
The Orthopaedic Group and other local clinics to provide cutting edge care in both injury prevention and rehabilitation.
During the school year, UMS-Wright Preparatory School offers an intro to Athletic Training course, under the direction of Mr. Stacy Harrelson, to senior students who have an interest in entering the medical field. Throughout the year, hard working students volunteer their time to assist the Sports Medicine staff at daily practices and competitive events.
