The Varsity Boys Bowling team made an historic run to a 3rd place finish in this week's State Bowling Meet. It was the best finish in the history of the program as Pierce Guy smashed the UMS-Wright record books. After rolling through the Sectional Meet without a loss, the Bulldogs started the State Meet with a perfect 14-0 record on the season. UMS-Wright opened the State Meet with wins over John Carroll and Beauregard, but ran into a buzzsaw Corner team. Corner gave the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, but the Bulldogs rebounded nicely and beat Elberta in the next match to advance to a "Final Four" rematch with Corner. The Yellow Jackets proved to be too much as they scored 1541 points and eliminated UMS-Wright, who finished 3rd overall.
There were several strong individual performances at the State Meet as three Bulldogs received recognition in the "Top 8": Pierce Guy (1st), Matthew Manson (3rd) and Jackson Smith (6th). Guy's 510 pins in the first two games was the best individual score in the State Meet (1A-5A). Guy also set a new UMS-Wright scoring record at the State Meet, bowling a 268 to break his previous school record of 259.
Congrats to Coach Houston and all of our bowlers on an outstanding season!
