Pat Galle

Coach Pat Galle has been teaching and coaching for the last 52 years, 49 at UMS-Wright. He serves and the Head of the Physical Education Department where he oversees teaching and learning for children and athletes in grades K3-12.

Since 1972, Coach Galle has been the head coach for both Outdoor and Indoor track programs.  He is also the head coach for the Cross County Progam.  Coach Galle was the head football coach from 1989-1992.  He has accumulated 69 Alabama State High School championships with 12 of those coming in Cross Country (seven boys and six girls titles). He was honored in the Fall of 2011 when the UMS-Wright track was renovated and renamed of the Galle-Leatherbury Track.  

Coach Galle has three years combined experience at Theodore and Blount High School in Mobile from 1969-1972.  He has been named to the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame, Mobile City Sports Hall of Fame (an honor he shares with his father, the late Stan Galle), and the UMS-Wright Sports Hall of Fame.  He has twice been named the National Federation of High Schools Coach of the Year as well as the National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year. The Mobile Press-Register has also honored him with Track Coach of the Year accolades.

Coach Galle has one daughter, Corey Steele, who is a 1990 UMS-Wright graduate and a member of the UMS-Wright Athletic Hall of Fame. Her husband Trey (UMS '88) was a member of the 1988 State Championship Baseball Team.  The have three sons attending UMS-Wright: McKee (UMS-W '16), Patrick (UMS-W '18), and Williamson (UMS-W '22).  Their boys have contributed to 3 State Championships in Baseball, Track and Football.
