Michael Napp

Coach Michael Napp enters his 11th season as the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Napp works in the Fine Arts department and teaches Digital Design / Production and Digital Sports Media classes.  This year he will also be piloting a Sports Broadcasting class in the high school. 

A 1996 graduate of UMS-Wright, Coach Napp began his coaching career at his alma mater as an assistant under Coach Kemper Todd in 2000. He also spent a season as an assistant under Coach Anthony Clark in 2003-2004.  Coach Napp left UMS-Wright to become the Head Coach at Northeast Jones High School in Laurel, MS. In his two seasons there, the Tigers saw tremendous success and advanced to the South State semifinals in 2006.  For the next eight seasons, Coach Napp was the Head Coach at Chelsea High School in the Birmingham metro area.  He left Chelsea with the second most wins for a coach in program history while leading the Hornets to school records in season wins and their only postseason victory in the last 28 years.

In his 10 seasons back at UMS-Wright, the Bulldogs have consistently participated in the playoffs, including winning Area 1 titles in 2018, 2020, 2022 & 2023 and advancing to the South Regional in 2018, 2020, 2022 & 2024.  In 2022, the Bulldogs won the South Regional and advanced to the Final Four (5A) for only the third time in school history.  Coach Napp has a 38-14 record in Area games and an overall record of 175-121 during his 10 seasons back at UMS-Wright.  
 

Coach Napp and his wife Susanne have been married for 24 years, and they have four children: Davis (9th Grade), Bryce (7th Grade), Mary Carolyn (7th Grade) and Cameron (4th Grade).  When he's not on the court, Coach Napp likes spending time with his family near large bodies of water or attending Auburn athletic events.
